6 Week Boot Camp Week 6- Day 3 and 4 Herbs for Energy

You’re almost there. It’s been a long six weeks some days better than others but you should be seeing the changes in yourself Spirit, Soul & Body by now, and I’m sure others have noticed as well.  And although your eating better and exercising there are still days when you  experience energy depletion.  Let’s look at some herbs that you can add to your diet to boost your energy. energy herbs

Herbs can be used in several different ways to boost energy. They may directly increase muscle energy or brain activity, boost your metabolism or keep you feeling upbeat and generally healthy and fit. It is tempting to try to take as many as you possibly can, but read about each herb and see which one will be the most effective at boosting your energy naturally.

1.  Peppermint: Surprisingly, peppermint is a natural stimulant much like caffeine and it’s perfect in herbal teas. I use this herb all the time especially in the morning as it’s a great substitute for coffee. It helps to rid the body of toxins and cleanse the system, making you feel more active and lively. Additionally, it strengthens the heart muscles and helps with ideal nerve function, giving you an extra burst of energy. Can be bought in any herbal store or online at Amazon.

Peppermint Tea herbal peppermint-tea
A simple and cost effective way to make peppermint tea is to put a heaped teaspoon of dried organic peppermint leaves into a teapot with a filter or a french press and steep it in very hot water for at least 5 minutes. Longer steeping time will make for a stronger cup of tea. Add some natural sweetner such as organic honey or maple syrup if desired. Sip and Enjoy.

2. Ashwagandha: I know this herb sounds a little strange but I assure you it does work.  Ashwagandha can stimulate the immune system, and restore energy to various systems of the body. It also helps improve your quality of sleep allowing you to awaken more fresh and alert. Ashwagandha, also increases physical performance and keeps the heart healthy and strong. Can be bought in any herbal store or online at Amazon.

Ashwagandha Tea

honey to sweeten
Bring water to a low boil. Add the ashwagandha. Cover with a lid to prevent the volatile oils from escaping. Steep 5-10 minutes to suit your taste. Add honey to sweeten. It can act as a mild sedative so it is best taken in the evening.

3. Nettles: Also referred to as stinging nettle, is a tremendous energy booster and can provide more energy than one cup of coffee. Usually made into a tea, this herb contains large amounts of minerals and vitamins. Traditionally used for stress reduction and energy, nettle has the added bonus of improving the absorption of iron within the bloodstream. “Drinking Nettle infusion is like drinking the energy of the earth – good solid energy”Can be bought in any herbal store or online at Amazon.

Nettles Tea  stinging nettle tea
Simply add water to your collected nettle leaves dried or fresh and heat to a near boil. Use about two cups of water for a cup of fresh leaves or a tbsp of dried leaves. You can make the tea stronger by steeping longer, or weaker by adding more water. Once the water is near boiling, reduce heat and simmer for a couple minutes. Pour through a small strainer and the tea is ready to drink. If you want a sweeter nettle tea, add some organic honey or other natural sweetener that suits your taste and drink when it is the right temperature.

Energy boosting Herbs have a lot to offer, and understanding how they work is required for safe and effective use. As I always say do some research and get to know which herbs work best for you. If any herb is making you feel strange discontinue or decrease the amount you’re using, but at the same time don’t be afraid to try.  Have Fun, Do More, Try Harder!!! Be Well.
